Fascinating. I have not listened to any of the early mono Walter recordings, but this looks worth a listen!

    1. Not exactly HiFi as low-level passages are a bit nebulous but the performances are really excellent (so heard to their best advantage in the louder parts!).
Pretty decent transfer for 1958, nevertheless..

Tin Ear, for some reason, I was unable to leave a comment on your latest post on The Band of H.M. Royal Marines, so I thought I'd leave one here. While this is not normally music I would seek out myself, I nonetheless enjoyed the recording and your digital transfer. Although this repertoire is mostly British and not American, it still reminds me of the Mercury recordings released by Frederick Fennell and the Eastman Wind Ensemble. Lighthearted fare that made for a very pleasant start to my morning. Thank you for posting!

    1. That post really intended for a fleeting appearance. Also inappropriate to have comments (in theory) due to the nature of the occasion - and link to the new British Normandy Memorial. And not entirely suitable for one-after-the-other listening!
The UK Fennell's presumably were all less dynamic transfers made by Mercury for EMI (have some stereo/mono).

Discovered the EMG review of this post (during a Silvestri-search..) and the 'faded' parts (of #41) certainly influenced their opinion of The Performance.

Man, those critics were tough nuts to crack. They seemed to reign the recorded music world with an iron fist!
