Thanks a lot for these recordings! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCertainly constitutes some wonderfully vivid interpretation.
ReplyDeleteHad intended this to include SH 227 Composers recordings of: Francaix - Hahn Piano Concertos + Milhaud Scaramouche (the 1930 Rio Grande already uploaded).
Hello. I must admit that I was unaware of those recordings - not least because Michael Kennedy's (short) 1974 LP sleeve-note states that the items that I transferred were her 'only known recordings': so presumably the ones that you mention were re-discovered some years later?
ReplyDeleteYou can find all but one track on the Madeleine Grey recording available on Amazon and other outlets. The sound is terrible but you get a good idea of her wonderful talent. Most of that music is here and MUCH better quality . I complement the site on the rare quality of the recordings and recommend them. Only the School Songs and the last two cuts are not on this site. I have found an excellent recording of the "A Lcole" songs which I am now working on. It is possible to remove a great deal of the noise without hurting the basic sound. I would like to find somewhat better recordings of the "Chants Du Monde". There are a total of 23 cuts. There are actually 4 "Chansons Hebraiques" not 3 as in most collections. Some also consider one of the Auvergne Songs as 2 but that is just a quibble. I own 23 and there it stands until someone find a few more. I am waiting....

OK You’ve got them. You can now post everything known of the great Madeleine Grey. There are 22 known tracks not 23 as I first thought. One or more or the Auvergne songs have been divided in some collections but the Pathe LP recording, has 8 tracks and does not divide any of the known songs into fragments. There are 8 Songs of the Auvergne and 14 songs by Ravel. Those are either accompanied by Ravel on piano or conducted by him. If anyone knows of more, I hope they will share. Good Luck. Mel
ReplyDeleteSorry that I don't have tranlations of these works and my French is limited to a few curses. If anyone can share, we would be grateful.
