ReplyDeleteI was only commenting a few days back to 'a follower'that I'd no idea how many downloads this was getting ('zero comments..') to remain @ the top of the listing - but said that 'Sons of the Sea' was Fantastic.
DeleteI may have seen Peter Dawson as a child - as he lived in Dolphin Square (London) and was a customer of our business..
Thanks, I had the LP many years ago. Stirring stuff.

There was a big LP box of his material - but this was a sufficient 'taster' for me - and only have a few of his 78's.
DeleteAs you say - warms the cockles of Seafaring Britons...well... at least 80 odd years back..and I must know 'Cargoes' off-by-heart, second by second, due to the absolutely huge amount of 'waveform repair' undertaken on very 'gritty' 78 surfaces.
Peter Dawson's 'change of gear' towards the end is quite amusing..
Still there after all this time ... Many thanks for this sample og one of the great voices of all time.
ReplyDeleteDawson's records weren't bought by Classical buffs: only have 2x 78's...from several very large collections..
