Possibly the 1954 78 dub (HMV ALP 1199-1201). Excellent quality/superb performance. Album notes >>>

Thank you! (https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3132283)
ReplyDeleteIncredible quality considering the age, what a gift! Many thanks :)
ReplyDeleteStupidly, I didn't buy the 'Cosi fan tutte' - this was 99p.... I've the early '50's RCA transfer of 'Nozze di Figaro' - but nowhere as good as this for sound..
DeleteThe Pearl CDs for Figaro and Così both sound pretty good. Giovanni sounds a lot more muffled on the Pearl CD compared to here. The only other music I have that's this old that sounds this good is maybe your own transfer of Beecham's Zauberflöte haha
DeleteHave the first 'Zauberflote' album/libretto -possibly the LP transfer is quite close to the 78's.
DeleteRCA Camden/Victrola might have some non-dumbed-down sound as had intended in 2013 CDN1012 de Luca (1959) and have some as the original HMV 78s - there is also Rethberg/Martinelli/Ponselle etc. But get bored with near-zero response!!
