Léon Goossens, oboe / oboe d'amore - Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Alceo Galliera and Walter Susskind
EMI World Records SH 243 1978 LP. Matrices: W9881 -2 / W9882 -2. Recorded: 1947, 1952, 1949+1952.
The tape-recordings are rather 'fuzzy'n'seedy'.. Sleeve-note / EMG reviews >>>
Thanks TE, very nice, and a reminder of how elegant (and eloquent) Goossens was. The fuzziness wasn't distracting, but A.C. Griffiths usually worked wonders with old material so it must have quite bad in the first instance.
ReplyDeleteHello Andrew,
DeleteNot my fave 'Historical' LP (was going to dismember it, some years back) - and no longer have CLP 1656 (RVW/Bach); but 'Remastering' may imply Griffith did the original R.Strauss dubbing &/or fiddled with the available tapes.
But only the R.Strauss seems on CD (Testament): - so here they are!
I can understand your pain. It is too bad that people like your transfers so much and you work so hard and take so much time to provide free content often not available anywhere else. I don't know about others, but I have enjoyed listening to many things you have made available without compensation. I am a former professional violinist, but due to an accident I am now a quadriplegic. I actively upload music videos to YouTube, finding music, finding, editing and adding pictures and information about the artist(s), and often the composer to make the viewing better. It is time-consuming, but helps give me a sense of purpose. I have used a number of your transfers, with your permission, that always include a plug for your blog and a link for those who are not too lazy to find music downloads anywhere but YouTube. If I haven't done so already I want to thank you very much.

Too many factors: and the inability to ever really listen to my 'collection', also the unwillingness to (have to, 'unnecessarily') wet-clean yet more LP's for the transfers.
DeleteBecomes A Time-Consuming Chore; especially given the constant out-of-pocket expense; but may continue (sometime) for the private (for contributors) blog...plus the odd 'easy' free transfer.
In terms of HISTORICAL had anyway uploaded much of my worthwhile orchestral/chamber, though always doubted Vocal's would generate similarly 'enthusiastic' downloading....but have 'lots'..
