    1. These may be the original matrices used by HMV (Oct.1952 LP release) - and have the 'old style' RCA metal-type spacing: so presumably are older than that - despite the 21S takes.

The EMG review was not too complimentary about the sound - but I thought it pretty detailed (Toscanini/HMV releases were invariably from RCA metalwork) - unlike some others which are quite sub-fusc/inferior to later Decca transfers.

I got the impression these were dubbed from 12" 78 sides (vinyl copies of) - and there were numerous 'subdued ticks' left behind by whatever processor they used.

The performances are rather good!! (though was concerned that they might seem too overbearing - given that I don't 'fake/enhance' (or turn Rossini into Il Signor Diminuendo......) and because of the slightly limited dynamic-range.

  2. Thank you so much for share this.
I tried a few years ago to restore the original transfers downloading from European Archive but they were in impossible state, your copy sounds very very clear, only with headphones the remain clicks were audible in high level.
    Thank you again.
    Pablo.

    1. As usual, these were hand de-ticked (the LP being new/perfect) but, via loudspeakers, the original 78 surface was hardly obvious; only heard close-up could you hear the very faint surface ticks/groove-noises...

(An original Shure Hyper-Elliptical stylus was used...)
