  1. Sounds a bit clangy/overpowering via the Laptop setup - but was excellent via a 'proper HiFi'...
Szell was the conductor of the Serkin/Cleveland I bought in 1969 from EMG in Soho Sq, London (posh shop..)...have about 6 copies now (about the only popular CBS LP!!!).

With that I'm taking a break from this blog - with the possible exception of Mengelberg/Beethoven 5/8 (none-too-HiFi 1985 Japanese LP) - have finished Sym.8 - so will add to the existing COA files when completed.

    1. I'm having problems with 'Commerciazl Spam' on the Pristine site - so, as 'Anon', you can't comment at present (will use the wretched 'Captchas' instead).

These 'Historical' files take a very long time to edit as there are bad tape edits - but mostly lots of small 'blips'- so it's akin to trying to make a quite noisy LP almost free of small defects - which means I can't attend to the other blog as well!

As am currently mentioning re: the Klemperer - the Brahms 4 uses a cartridge with considerable detail (as used for this..) but having a
strange fault when viewed on a waveform editor - so have dithered as to whether continue using it for these files (have only done so for about a month) - hence the particular 'delay' there - and was also wondering whether to add the Haydn Variations from the 33CX mono (a rare LP) - but essentially (as you can also see!) it was designed as 'competition' - especially as I was aware that the LP transfer used 'elsewhere' was less good than that original release - by comparison with 2/3 others.

  4. Please add the Haydn variations
I am not a hi fi connoisseur
    I just love the performances
    and as said previously
I can appreciate the enormous amount of work that goes in to making these remastered recordings

    1. Not so sure about that..but it's mainly this blog that will 'have a rest'.

Sadly, an interesting mid-1980's German EMI 2LP of Backhaus 78's had really poor transfers (bad surfaces/heavily filtered) - and I need to check what (if any) LPO/Beecham 1930's may not be on CD.
In the early 1960's Keith Hardwick transfered (for Saga labels) quite a few Acoustic 78 recordings - mostly 'potted' operas - with the LP consisting of various performers - so will check if any stand-up-to-scrutiny..
