    1. An absolute Penance to edit the 'flawless/mint' EMI vinyl.
Luckily had two copies of each, as the Weber was 'flawed' both times.

Seems the EMI CD's are long OOP...and may now transfer the 1950 Decca Vienna recordings.

  3. Thanks a lot - I have both LPs, but I am not so often in the place where they and the turntable are kept, and I keep having the yen for the '44 Salome last scene!

    1. The 1944 sounds marginally better on the HMV Treasury LP used.
I think the 1952 Moralt takes some beating (and the opera is one where the whole is worthwhile listening (whereas, eg, Boito's 'Mephistophele' one can ignore much apart from the Prologue/last act..)...but the 31yo Welitsch provides very vibrant singing.

    1. Put the (taped) Decca hereabouts as didn't consider there would be much interest in the 'commonplace'/on CD CBS Reiner/Rudolf recordings - also the sound was a bit 'second-generation'.

Particularly liked the Verdi "Ballo", and suspect these transfers are rather superior to the 'generalized sound' (MusicWeb review) of Nimbus's 2CD effort..
