  1. This may prove to be one of your most popular posts! One of the real rarities! Many, many thanks!

  2. Huh! I would have Charged for this one... But maybe somebody has Dutton's 'Volume One' (sic) Bantock CD (now 'rare') - issued in 2000 ??

  3. Lot of thanks! Bantock's music was the tremendous discovery for me in the mid-nineties.
And this is real rarity worth hearing.

  5. What a great treasure. The Hyperion recordings were a revelation for me, so it is wonderful to hear performances chronologically a bit closer to the composer's lifetime.

  6. No idea if this LP sold many copies (deleted within 3years: I'd considered it 'semi-rare').
As Dutton didn't produce a follow-up CD (due to poor sales?) these performances are obviously new to most people.

  7. Thank you. I remember the BBC broadcasting the recording of the 'Celtic' years ago and the harp glissandi in this version are outstanding.

  8. Glad you liked this. Yes - very noticeable Harps towards the end!

  9. Thank you so much for these performances. I'm amazed by the sound quality of the orchestral pieces - the recordings date from the late 1940s.

  10. Were it not for the somewhat 'ticky' LP surfaces an old Ortofon MC mono design might have extracted just a bit more detail (JVC 'X-1' Beryllium/Shibata used here).
Not using 'noise-reduction/de-clicking software' obviously means a 'closer to the original LP' sound.
Decca made a good job, for the time, from the shellacs: but their 1948 Munch/Paris Conservatoire 'Pathetique' (from acetates, it appears; as there's no discernable 'surface') was superior (on an early 'Ace of Clubs' LP).

    Hi,
First, thank you very much. I love your site, and have enjoyed everything I've ever listened to from you.
Second, however, when I went to Mediafire for the Celtic and hit the green Download button, Avast blocked a trojan horse. I don't know whether there is anything you can do about it, or if it's something that winds up being between Mediafire and some anonymous foe, but it seemed, either way, that a heads-up was in order.
I just learned of this piece and can't wait to hear it.

    1. Hello.
Never previously been informed of anything like that.... but anyway have just re-uploaded the file (over 350 previous downloads) - but was planning to check these/re-upload amended files - as there may be a few 'little ticks' that previously weren't audible: however the LP sound/transfer seems better than Dutton provided for the other recordings - judging by FLACs of the CD I was given.

Perhaps you can confirm this is OK (although I fail to see how it would, inherently, be carrying a Trojan! - and MediaFire scan uploaded files in any event)

Downloaded all the Bantock here, no problem, not a peep out of Avast. I don't understand the world of malware, which was why said I didn't know if there was anything you could do. I believe Avast when it says it blocked something. With mediafire you sometimes get a popup when you hit the download button. It seems that the popup or something attached to it is what Avast is blocking. Anyway, today was all clear. Thank you, again.

    1. Cedric; I know this LP is 'rare' (and my transfer sounded far superior to Dutton's of other similar items - was sent FLAC's); but these are older files that (with some exceptions) are now rarely downloaded/perused - they only stay available due to Mega -so you'd need somewhere else to offer your LP to a potential buyer!
